How to Manage Inventory for
Products with Variations

When you make something in different versions like size, color, or material, you'll want to track how many of each version you have available. This way, customers can't order something you don't have in stock.

Track Stock for Each Variation

Go to the Variations tab inside your product. Click the triangle next to each variation to expand it.

For each variation:

  • Check Manage stock?
  • Enter how many units you have in Stock quantity
  • Set a Low stock threshold if you want a warning when you’re running low (this is optional)

Example:

  • Gold = 3 pieces
  • Silver = 2 pieces
  • Brass = 1 piece

The system will automatically reduce your inventory count each time someone places an order.

Important Note About Main Inventory

If you’re tracking stock per variation, leave the main inventory section (above Variations) blank or unchecked. That main section is only used when you’re selling one version of a product, or when all variations share the same inventory pool.

For Custom or One-of-a-Kind Items

If you make pieces to order or have unique items, you can also:

  • Check “Allow only one quantity to be bought per order”
  • Enable backorders if you’re willing to make items after someone orders them

Head to the Variations tab. From the dropdown, choose Create variations from all attributes and click Go. When the pop-up appears, click OK.

The system will automatically create separate variations for each option. If you listed Gold, Silver, and Brass as materials, you’ll now have three variations, one for each.
